Hasty Pudding

1 cup yellow corn meal
water
1/2 tsp. salt
butter
maple syrup

Place 1 cup of corn meal in a bowl with 1 cup of cold water.  set aside. Bring 3 cups of water to a boil and add 1/2 tsp. of salt.  Stir in the softened corn meal and mix carefully so it does not lump.  Cook over a low heat for 15 minutes, stirring regularly.  Place a pat of butter on top of cooked mush and pour maple syrup over the top.

Leftover mush was placed in a pan or bowl and allowed to solidify and then was sliced and cooked in a pan with grease for another meal.
